Magic is magic is magic, right? Well, yes and no. It’s all magic at the end of the day, but there are different types of magic beneath that wider umbrella.

Magician Marcel Oudejans

At Café Roux Cape Town on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 [Click here for info] you’ll get the chance to get a closer look at – and gain a better understanding of – two significantly separate disciplines when veteran Marcel Oudejans pits his years of visual illusion and sleight of hand skills up against the mentalism and mind-reading of the award-winning Brendon Peel, in a match refereed by fellow magician Greg Gelb.

This is an all-new concept in which the two performers will bring out their big guns to impress the audience…and then they’ll swop and do each others! After a final round back in their own comfort zones, the spectators will be invited to vote for their favourite and one man will be crowned the winner.

Do you prefer a dazzling card trick, or will an extreme feat of memory sway you from Marcel to Brendon? Who will reign supreme in this battle of wits and wizards? You hold their fate in your hands.

Café Roux in Noordhoek and the Cape Town CBD is a longtime supporter of local music and performing arts; this is the first time it’s hosting a magic show and certainly not the last.

Mentalist Brendon Peel

Marcel Oudejans is one of those rare magicians who is less interested in accumulating accolades from his peers than he is in creating amazing and unforgettable experiences for his audiences. Oudejans has been a full-time professional magician since 2003 and in that time has entertained hundreds of blue-chip corporate audiences, high-profile executives and at international conferences, casinos, and luxury hotels. He’s been the producer of Cape Town Magic Club since 2016.

Brendon Peel is an award-winning mentalist hailing from Port Elizabeth. Peel has performed at every National Arts Festival in Grahamstown/Makana since 2011 with solo hit shows such as Think Twice, Magic Through the Ages, and Mind Over Magic. He has also performed all South Africa in theatre festivals, as well as being booked for large corporate events. In 2017, Peel won the South African Theatre Magazine “Performer of the Year” award.
